August came in with a storm!

WOW!  So August 2nd, Sunday of the long weekend, southern Ontario witnessed an incredible storm....and right here in our little hamlet of Utica, we experienced some of the worst of it.
Our very old building, with parts of it dating back to 1894, suffered a large hole in our roof.  What actually happened according to two eye witnesses, was that our entire roof lifted, and came back down and a large hole was blown out of it on the west front side...and we had insulation from the attic sucked out and landed all over the road - according to Bev it looked like it had snowed!  The next day the front of the building looked like it had spit balls all over the front of it!
Now here's the crazy part....we suffered a mild amount of water damage in the upper level apartment bedroom, and just enough to dirty a ceiling tile in the store....not a thing fell off the walls or was disturbed in the store!  We had trees on the opposite side of our property cut in half and limbs everywhere, but the two sample sheds on our lawn were completely untouched!
In our Attic you can see that the roof has been slightly lifted, and it will need to be repaired, but fortunately because it was built so many years ago, with huge timbers, it remained, for the most part intact....we were told that if the building had been made to todays standards of construction, our roof would have ended up in the John Deere tractor lot!!!  WOW!  Maybe that's why I like antiques so much!!!

All in all this is what I figure....this building survived a fire, many years ago, two cars going through the front windows, and now a seriously bad storm (not a tornado), so the only thing left would be an airplane hitting odds are good I don't have to worry too much!  HA!
